Some unscrupulous elements are trying to collect money from the general public in the name of giving ‘metered electricity connections’ under the Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya) in Hailakandi district.
In a statement here on Thursday, the district administration wants to make the people aware of the fact that under the scheme free electricity connections are provided to Below Poverty Line (BPL) households and no upfront fee is charged.
Under the Saubhagya scheme, single point wiring along with a LED bulb, mobile charging points and switch are provided free of cost. However, if the household needs more power points, then it has to bear the cost for additional wiring and other accessories.
The district administration also wants to state that there is no provision for providing free power to any category of consumers and that electricity consumption has to be paid as per the prevailing tariff based on meter reading.
The administration requests the general public not to offer money to anyone to get metered electricity connection under the ongoing scheme. “The people must approach the nearest APDCL subdivision for any information or query and not allow to be misled by unscrupulous elements,” said Assistant Commissioner, Parikshit Phukan. Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan warned of strong action against those fleecing the gullible public in the name of providing electricity connections under Saubhagya or involved in corruption in any government schemes.
