Agartala

BSF Tripura Frontier is contemplating to erect laser walls to guard unfenced and riverine patches of Indo-Bangla border in Tripura as part of ensuring effective guarding of border areas, according to official sources. In Tripura, the BSF has already started using sensor devices like Night Vision Goggles (NGVs) and other electronic gadgets to guard the international border.

“Now, we want to get the benefit of laser walls to ensure effective border management along Indo-Bangla border but this has not been finalised yet”, said a senior BSF official here on Monday.

Construction of laser walls is on the verge of completion in sensitive areas like Dhubri of Assam. “Similar laser wall is being given thought for additional security grid along the unfenced border patches of Sonamura belt in Tripura”, the official said under cover of anonymity.

“Once the project is implemented at Dhubri successfully, the BSF higher ups will assess its utility and then it will be replicated in Tripura”, the official pointed out.

Of the total 856 km Indo-Bangla border in Tripura, the Centre has approved 840 km border to be fenced. While 750 km borderline has already been fenced, only 90 km remain unfenced mainly in Sonamura subdivision.
