Mizoram Ready for Assembly polls

Mizoram is Ready for Assembly polls, Congress, BJP, MNF and Zoram Peoples’ Movement are the main political parties contesting the elections.

Election Commission has made all arrangements for tomorrow’s Assembly elections in Mizoram. After electioneering for 40-member Mizoram Assembly elections came to an end last evening.

Political parties will now be engaging in door to door campaigning today to woo the voters. Star campaigners of BJP, Congress and other parties addressed a series of rallies and road shows in the last few days to turn the voters in their favour.

In Mizoram, Congress, BJP, Mizo National Front and the nascent Zoram Peoples’ Movement are the main political parties contesting the elections.

MNF chief Zoramthanga  stated that “I believe MNF will win between 25 30 seats and we will get a comfortable majority. People by and large are against the Congress party this time”.

Chief Electoral Officer Ashish Kundra expressed satisfaction over poll arrangements and said that a free, fair and peaceful poll would be conducted.

A total of 7,68,181 voters including 3,93,685 female voters will exercise their franchise across 1,179 polling stations on November 28 as the state election machinery is all prepared to conduct election to the 40-member state Assembly.

CEO Mr Kundra informed that 15 special polling station have been set up. Special polling stations are for 12 thousand Bru voters, sheltered in Tripura relief camps. Of the total, 32 polling stations are declared as critical.

Voting will be held between 7 am and 4 pm. All polling stations will be equipped with EVMs.

40 companies of Central Police and 42 companies state police will be deployed on polling day. State Police in a press statement said arrangements are ready to connect polling stations through the wireless network.

This morning, polling parties have started collecting polling materials and began proceeding to poll stations. Yesterday, 176 polling parties proceeded to poll stations in remote areas.
