104-year-old Lakhi Paul, the oldest voter of Assam from Charaideo district is all set to exercise her franchise in the first phase of polls on Thursday. Lakhi will cast her vote at 40 No Polling Station in 105 Mahmora Assembly constituency under Jorhat LS constituency.

Assam Police, while encouraging the people of the state to come out and vote keeping aside excuses, has identified Lakhi Paul as the oldest voter of India.

Sharing an image of the oldest voter on its Twitter handle on the eve of the first phase of general elections to the 17th Lok Sabha, Assam Police stated: “In Assam’s Charaideo District, India’s oldest voter, aged 104 yrs, Lakhi Paul is all set to vote tomorrow.

Lakhi, which is reportedly two years older than independent India’s first voter Shyam Saran Negi, who is 102 years old, was was tracked by the SVEEP (Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation) Cell of Charaideo district.

Recently,  a team from Charaideo district administration led by Charaideo deputy commissioner Dipak Kumar Handique met Lakhi Paul and felicitated her with a gamosa and offered fruits.

According to media reports, the deputy commissioner asked Mahmora circle officer Tanvi Ahmed to personally receive Paul on the polling day and take her to the polling station to vote.
