Assam: Work with mission mode for success of MR vaccination campaign

Hailakandi district of Assam  is all set to launch Measles Rubella vaccination campaign from August 17.

A District Task Force meeting was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan on Friday at his office conference hall here in which action plan and strategies were discussed in detail to make the vaccination campaign a success in the district.

Khan asked the health officials and functionaries to ensure that not a single child is left out of the vaccination drive. “Everyone has to work with a mission mode for the success of the vaccination campaign,” he quipped.

The Deputy Commissioner underlined the need to gear up the IEC activities to make the programme a success.

It was decided in the meeting to form a committee headed by the Joint Director, Health Services to look after the IEC activities in an intensive and organised manner. “Convincing the people is of paramount importance for ensuring success of the vaccination campaign,” he added.

Khan urged the health officials and functionaries to hold community level meetings, meetings at gaon panchayat level and with religious leaders to make the programme a success. He also directed the health authorities to gear up campaign on Measles Rubella in social media and to hold a media sensitization workshop.

Altogether 2,16,318 children aged between 9 months to 15 years will be vaccinated across four Block Public Health Centers and Post Partum Centre (Urban). 1,486 school session sites, 649 outreach sites, 15 fixed session sites in hospitals and 49 special camps in high risk areas have been identified. 211 vaccinators, 1,273 ASHA/AWWs and 87 supervisors will be pressed into service for the campaign. A control room has been set up manned by health officials and functionaries to deal with any Adverse Event Following Immunization (AEFI) cases.

The meeting was attended, among others, by Joint Director, Health Services, Dr. Avijit Basu, Additional Deputy Commissioner, EL Farhiem, Additional Chief Medical and Health Officer, Dr. Abed Rasul Mazumder, Inspector of Schools, Rajiv Kumar Jha, District Immunization Officer, Dr. K. Thambalsana, Incharge of BPHCs and other health functionaries.
