Assam: Police personnel of Hailakandi undergo first aid, trauma management training

A three-day training course of first aid and trauma management for police personnel was conducted by the District Disaster Management Authority, Hailakandi at SK Roy Civil Hospital.
The training module that began on Monday is designed for police personnel who require a basic understanding of what to do in a first aid emergency thus empowering them to save lives.
The training course for police personnel aimed at building confidence in medical skills, are highly practical and adapted to meet the specific first aid training needs as well as trauma management.
“Every policeman needs to evaluate his/her own work environment and likely scenarios,” said District Programme Officer, DDMA, Ripunjoy Maibhangsa.
The training is imparted depending on the types of injuries one is most likely to encounter and the first aid gear one needs to carry. Training is being imparted on the use of first aid tools, including hands-on training. “Hands-on training is the best way to reinforce how to use these kinds of aid tools and how to respond to medical emergencies,” said Maibhangsa, adding that such training help to hone skills in order to respond to any exigency.
The program trained the police personnel on how to sustain themselves or others in life threatening medical emergencies. State Disaster Response Force personnel taught different techniques to the police personnel such as medical assessment techniques, CPR, use of emergency bandages, combat gauze and tourniquets, and transfer of care. “Police personnel are being trained to address the most common causes of preventable traumatic death, including choking, ” said the DDMA official.
“It teaches public safety first responders, including law enforcement personnel the basic medical care interventions which will help save an injured responder’s life until EMS practitioners can safely enter the scene, ” added Maibhangsa.
Additional Deputy Commissioner cum Chief Executive Officer, DDMA, RK Dam, Additional Superintendent of Police, Barun Purkayastha and Superintendent, SK Roy Civil Hospital distributed certificates to the participants.
The entire training programme was conducted by Superintendent of SK Roy Civil Hospital, SDRF personnel and DPO, DDMA.
