Assam: Pitch in all efforts for care and protection of children- DC Adil Khan

A meeting of the District Child Protection Committee (DCPC) was held under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Adil Khan today.
Chairing the first quarterly review meeting of DCPC at DC’s conference hall here, Khan directed all the BDOs to gear up the Block level Child Protection Committees for promotion of child protection services and tackling child related issues at grassroots level. “We must pitch in every effort for children in need of care and protection in the district,” he said.
The Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman directed Wodwichee, an NGO, running children homes from Silchar, to shift its base to Hailakandi as the district does not have any home for orphans and destitute children.
The meeting discussed on matters pertaining to non-availability of age estimation test (Ossification Test) at SK Roy Civil Hospital and issue of certificate for disabled children by medical board. Khan directed District Child Protection Officer (DCPO), Jitul Borah to place the matter before the Joint Director, Health Services.
The Deputy Commissioner cum Chairman instructed the DCPO to conduct training for the BDOs on their roles and responsibilities under the Block level Child Protection Committees next Sunday.
DCPO, Borah gave a brief power point presentation on the activities and current status of Child Welfare Committee, Juvenile Justice Board and District Child Protection Committee.
The meeting was attended, among others, by DDC, FR Laskar, ADC, Ruth Lienthang, Additional SP, Jagadish Das, BDOs, Member, Juvenile Justice Board, Chairperson, CWC, District Labour Officer, Secretary, Wodwichee, officials from Childline, District Child Protection Committee, SSA, Zila Parishad and Superintendent of SK Roy Civil Hospital.
