Assam: Motivated and fake complaints caught during PGR Day in Hailakandi

The complainant himself fell into a trap during hearing of public grievances on PGR Day at Deputy Commissioner’s office in Hailakandi district of Assam on Tuesday.
One Fakrul Islam Laskar, a VDP Secretary of Nichintapur Part II under Lala Circle came with a petition alleging that Anganwadi worker Kutila Begum Barbhuiya was running the Anganwadi Centre No.313 at Mazurtilla from elsewhere. But on enquiry by CIrcle Officer, Lala, incharge of CDPO, Madhumita Nath, it was found that the allegation filed against her was false and baseless, as the centre was running at Mazurtilla since its inception and not as alleged by Laskar.
Laskar kept on making indecent proposal to her and passed lewd comments forcing her to file a police complaint against him. He even threatened to kidnap and eliminate her husband Jakir Hussain Laskar, a VDP Secretary.
Finding no respite from Laskar’s sexual overtures, Kutila approached the Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan for help. As the complainant Laskar was levelling false charges against her and his advances towards the lady came to the fore, Deputy Commissioner Khan ordered the police to come to the venue and take necessary action in the matter.
In yet another case, a head teacher of Kuchila High School came with a petition seeking redressal of grievances. The head teacher came to the public hearing by neglecting his school duties and had authorised an assistant teacher to look after his duties. For committing gross neglect of duties, the Deputy Commissioner ordered ADC incharge of Education, Ruth Lienthang for taking necessary action against him.
Cases of corruption also came to the fore, with Deputy Commissioner Khan directing the officials of the administration and concerned departments to initiate action as per Prevention of Corruption Act, 1998.
Deputy Commissioner also ordered probes into non completion of rural roads projects, irregularities and anomalies in schemes like MGNREGA, IAY, MsDP, IHHL and electricity connection to BPL families.
Petitions relating to poor conditions of roads, water logging, scarcity of drinking water, lack of drainage, pavements concerning the Hailakandi Municipal Board were forwarded by the administration for disposal at the public hearings held on first and third Saturdays by the board.
A total number of 44 complaints were received today on the fourth PGR Day held on Tuesdays. DDC, FR Laskar, ADCs, COs, BDOs, district heads and officials were present on the occasion.
