Assam: Minister Forest seeks people’s cooperation in NRC updation exercise

Minister for Environment and Forest Parimal Suklabaidya sought the support and cooperation of the people of Hailakandi for a correct and flawless NRC.

Interacting with the leading citizens, people’s representatives and representatives of poltical parties at a meeting convened by the district administration at Deputy Commissioner’s conference hall here on Sunday just on the eve of publication of final draft NRC, Minister Suklabaidya said that the NRC process is a fair exercise and there is nothing for the genuine Indian citizens to worry about. He said there is enough scope for those whose names have been excluded in the final draft NRC to be published tomorrow to incorporate their names in due course of time.

The Minister appealed to the people not to be misled by campaigns of vested circles and to extend support and cooperation to the NRC updation exercise being monitored by the Supreme Court.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Adil Khan briefed those taking part in the meeting about the slew of steps initiated by the administration so the people can view the final draft NRC in all the 57 NRC Seva Kendras spread across the district.

The meeting was attended, among others, by former Minister Gautam Roy, DIG, Southern Range, D. Upadhya, District Development Commissioner, FR Laskar, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Amalendu Roy, Superintendent of Police, Mohneesh Mishra and other senior officials of the civil and police administration.

Meanwhile, security has been beefed up across the district. Vulnerable areas have been identified and the situation is closely monitored to prevent any untoward incident, specially thoss arising out of rumour-mongering. The administration is keeping a close tab on the social media. One person Sabir Shah alias Raju Shah was arrested a few days ago for whipping up fear psychosis on the NRC updation exercise in social media.
