Assam: Kaziranga University conducts its 4th Annual Convocation

The Assam Kaziranga University, one of North-East India’s premier universities, conducted its 4th Annual Convocation Ceremony on 17th March, 2018 at the University campus in Koraikhowa, Jorhat. During the ceremony, 436 young men and women from across the different schools of the University were awarded their degrees.

Attended by several notable guests and luminaries, this year’s Annual Convocation was graced by the presence of Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, Minister for Education, Health and Finance, Government of Assam, who was the Chief Guest for the occasion.

Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma delivered the Convocation Address with his words of inspiration, after he was introduced by noted social entrepreneur-activist and Governing  Body member Shyam Kanu Mahanta. The Minister’s speech focused on the development of the region through the establishment of academic institutes of excellence like Kaziranga University. He emphasized on the aim of creating an education hub in Assam that would lead to progress and development, and help in reducing the “brain drain” phenomenon which is a frequent prevalence in the region.  The ultimate goal that was focused upon by the Hon’ble Dr. Sarma was the formation and growth of Assam as one of the biggest focal points of South East Asia.

The gathering was also addressed by Member of Parliament Jorhat,  Kamakhya Prasad Tasa and Guest of Honour  S.K Barua.

Mr Tasa addressed the students, motivating them to become future change-makers and leaders of tomorrow, and urged them to inculcate an interest in the administration setup of the nation.

Mr S.K Barua, MD, NRL highlighted the collaboration between Kaziranga University and Numaligarh Refinery Ltd. (NRL), commenting on the usefulness of several projects and surveys that were done by KU Engineering students as a part of their collaboration curriculum.

On this momentous occasion, Kaziranga University conferred honorary doctorates upon two of North-East India’s most exemplary individuals – noted innovator and inventor from Assam Dr. Uddhab Bharali and five time World Amateur Boxing Champion from Manipur, M.C Mary Kom for their tremendous contributions in their respective fields.

The dignitaries and distinguished guests present were  Basant Khetan, Hon’ble Pro-Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. P.K Mishra, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor of Kaziranga University, members of the University Governing Board, among several other esteemed individuals. The Convocation ceremony was presided over by the Hon’ble Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. Murli Dhar Khetan.

The function began with the arrival of the staid Academic Procession at the venue, which marked the opening of the ceremony. In his Welcome address, the Vice Chancellor Dr. P.K Mishra welcomed the esteemed dignitaries, guests, parents and students, while highlighting the pride and satisfaction the University takes in sending out into the world accomplished and skilled young professionals. The Chancellor’s address inaugurating the ceremony emphasized on the importance of education in building character as he congratulated the students on beginning the next phase of their lives.

More than 200 students were presented with their Degrees on this day, and 10 student-toppers were awarded with Gold Medals for ranking first in each of their programmes. In a first, the Chancellor of Kaziranga University, Dr. M.D Khetan’s book titled “Baalbodh” was also released by the esteemed guests and dignitaries on this occasion.

Kaziranga University has indeed created a benchmark of excellence in providing an industry-based educational interface for students through its domain partners and collaborations. With a goal of improving society through education and skill development, KU aims to produce young men and women of character and strong values, who will go out into the world and make a difference.
