Assam: Haj orientation training programme gets under way in Hailakandi

A unique feature of the orientation programme was the use of models and charts by ulemas to explain the various rituals connected with Haj.

The two-day Haj orientation training programme got under way in Hailakandi  district of Assam on Tuesday.

Organised by the District Haj Committee at Rabindra Bhawan auditorium, the orientation training programme was inaugurated by Additional Deputy Commissioner, Omar Sharif, who is also the member secretary of the haj committee.

There was overwhelming response with the auditorium getting packed as a large number of pilgrims, including women thronging.

Master trainers Prof.Sad Uddin Choudhury, Abul Hussain Mazarbhuiyan and Istak Hussain Laskar gave the intending pilgrims valuable tips on the ways of performing a hassle-free Haj at Mecca and Medina. The master trainers gave step by step explanation of how to perform the Haj, the circumambulation of ‘Kaba’, and the rules concerning ‘Saiee’.

Maulana Sarimul Haque Laskar, who was the chief guest, threw light on the importance and significance on Haj which constitutes the fifth pillar of Islam.

A unique feature of the orientation programme was the use of models and charts by ulemas to explain the various rituals connected with Haj.

“Apart from the spiritual aspects, the pilgrims are also being trained for boarding, lodging, accommodation, currency exchange and other activities to be performed during the pilgrimage, ” said a member of the haj committee.

This year altogether 288 pilgrims, 233 male and 55 female, are taking part in the annual pilgrimage from Hailakandi district.

The inaugural session was attended, among others by guest Sams Uddin Barlaskar, Ekram Rasul Laskar, Forid Uddin Borbhuiyan, Johir Uddin Laskar and Anwar Hussain Laskar, all members of District Haj Committee.
