Assam: Hailakandi district celebrates 72nd I-Day with patriotic fervour

With the rest of the country 72nd I-Day  celebrated in all over Hailakandi district with patriotic fervour.

Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Adil Khan said the district administration is for weeding out corruption from all realms through its zero tolerance policy against corruption.

Unfurling the national tricolour on the occasion of 72nd Independence Day at Deputy Commissioner’s office campus here on Wednesday, Deputy Commissioner Khan said the administration would take punitive action against those ‘giving and taking bribe’ in its bid to bring an end to the scourge of corruption.

Khan said in sync with Chief Minister’s Vision of a corruption-free, foreigners-free, insurgency-free and pollution-free Assam, the district administration is making all out efforts to translate the dreams of the Chief Minister into reality. In this context, the Deputy Commissioner appealed to all sections of the people of the district to extend wholehearted support and cooperation for achieving the avowed objectives of the present Government to usher in a ‘golden Assam’.

He said the present government is taking along with it all sections of the people, including the most backward communities in the realm of inclusive development vis-a-vis ‘Saaba Saath, Saaba Vikash’. Khan said the state and central governments have taken up a host of pro-poor schemes and development initiatives.

Outlining some of the achievements in the district, Khan said the aspirational district has achieved more than cent per saturation in Mission Indradhanush, Pradhan Mantri Ujala Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana under the Extended Gram Swaraj Yojana.

On the ongoing NRC updation exercise, Khan said the district has completed the final draft NRC in a peaceful atmosphere with the active cooperation of the people.  Khan reiterated that those whose names did not figure in the final draft NRC should not worry, as there are ample opportunities to incorporate their names. He appealed to the people to continue extending support to the administration for completion of the NRC updation exercise smoothly and efficiently.

Khan said construction of 14 rural roads is going on at a good pace under the Chief Minister’s Special Package and most of them would be completed within December this year. He said a slew of developmental initiatives are going on in Public Health Engineering, Agriculture, Fisheries, Veterinary and Animal Husbandry and other departments in the district.

Khan urged the people to extend support and cooperation to the upcoming Measles Rubella vaccination campaign for making the district free from the diseases.

The Deputy Commissioner also pointed out in his address how the district was badly affected by the deluge that hit over 3 lakh people and the timely steps taken by the administration in rescue and relief operations. He said ex-gratia of Rs. 4 lakh each was offered to the next of kin of the two deceased persons within 48 hours and that a detailed flood damage report has been already submitted to the government.

Colourful cultural programmes  were performed showcasing the rich culture of Assam and other North Eastern States.

Khan along with local MLA Anwar Hussain Laskar and other dignitaries gave away trophies and certificates to the best march past contingents, to the winners of drawing and patriotic song competitions, one time financial assistance for Rs.6,000 each to the winners of talent hunt event and to the toppers of HSLC, High Madrassa and Higher Secondary examinations.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner Khan accompanied by SP Mohneesh Mishra, ADC Amalendu Roy and other officials laid floral wreath at the Jatio Swahid Smarak (martyrs’ memorial column) in the morning. Khan also visited the District Jail and SK Roy Civil Hospital and distributed sweets on the occasion.

Independence Day was also celebrated in Lala, Algapur, Katlicherra and South Hailakandi development blocks in a befitting manner.

This year the district celebrated the  Independence Day with green, clean environment, patriotism and unity in diversity as key themes.
