Chairman, Assam State Agricultural Marketing Board, Palit Kumar Borah laid the foundation stone of a new Market Sub-Yard at Lala in Hailakandi district on Sunday.

Addressing the gathering, Chairman Borah said with the coming up of the marketing yard, the local farmers and horticulturists will get a better price for their produce at their door steps instead searching for the middlemen outside or far away from their homes, thus saving time and money.

Borah said the state government is ready to strengthen the market yards for the welfare of farmers in both Barak and Brahmaputra valleys and also allocate funds to lay link roads for transportation of farm produce from villages to market yards across the state.

Speaking on the occasion, Katlicherra MLA, Sujam Uddin Laskar said the new marketing yard will not only ease the traffic congestion at Lala-Bushnupur bypass but also add to the economy of the farmers of the area. Laskar said he was instrumental in bringing to fruition the long standing demand of the farmers and people for a marketing yard in Lala. In the same breathe, Laskar appreciated the present government for taking every one along its avowed goal of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikash’. “There has been a big demand for a marketing yard from locals here and I am happy that finally it will be done,” added Laskar.

Chief Executive Officer, Assam State Agricultural Marketing Board, Debeswar Bora, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Ruth Lienthang, president and member secretary of Hailakandi Regulated Market Committee, Aftab Uddin Laskar and Rajon Ali Barbhuiya, BJP district president, Subrata Nath and other officials were present.
