Assam: Bongaigaon Dist Admin takes strict measures to curb illicit liquor

From the very first day of this month, the Excise Department is continuing frequent raids against illegal distillation, storage, and sale of liquor.

In an effort to ensure no repetition of February Hooch tragedy( Spurious Sulai) of Jorhat and Golaghat,  Bongaigaon District Administration has started active and strict measures for curbing illicit liquor in the district, and excise department frequent raided different places and sized huge amount of illicit  liquor.

From the very first day of this month, the Excise Department is continuing frequent raids against illegal distillation, storage, and sale of liquor through out the district and seizes a huge amount of stock and held total 4no.s of persons till now in this connection.

In the raid at Dhaknabari and Taalguri area of Abhayapuri conducted by a team of Excise Department assisted by  armed Police Personnels of Boitamari Sub- Police Station, two illicit liquor salers held and 300 litres of Fermented Wash and 10 litres of illicit distilled liquor were seized.

In an another raid executed on 12th June at  B.G. Colony area of New Bongaigaon by a team of Excise Department led by Akan Bhattacharjya, Excise Inspector of district head quarter, one person held in connection with illicit liquor selling and 20 litres of illicit liquor seized.

Simialrly, an another team of Excise department from the district head quarter conducted raid at Paglasthan area and held one person with 10 litres of illicit liquor.

The accused persons so far were namely Diganta Barman and Dipak Barman of Dhaknabari, Buddhiram Brahma of Nilibari and Shankar Sahani of Paglasthan .

All the salers were produced to the court and under section 53 (1)(a) A.E.( Amendment Act),2018 they were found guilty and apparently sent to the jail.

Bongaigaon District Administration will continue it’s crusade against illicit distilled liquor and other illicit varieties in future and has sought cooperation and support from each and every section of the society.
