Arunachal: Protesters burnt down Dy CM’s residence in Itanagar

The on going Protest against PRC issue turned violent in Itanagar, and Protesters burnt down the private residence of Dy CM Chowna Mein.

Protesters in  Itanagar, the capital city of Arunachal Pradesh have burnt down the private bungalow of Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein. After torching the Deputy CM Chowna Mein’s residence, the protesters moved towards the CM Pema Khandu’s premises where a protestor was shot at by the security forces.

The security forces resorted to blank firing as the protesters defied curfew and marched towards Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu’s residence in Itanagar.

Protesters also torched and vandalised residences of the district commissioner, Itanagar police station and other govt offices.

It must be mention here that people have been protesting against the recommendations of a panel appointed by the state government regarding issuing permanent residence certificate (PRC) to some communities who have been living in Namsai and Changlang district of east Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, taking note of the protests in the state, the Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu has announced that his government is not issuing PRC.

The state govt has decided through official letter on the present issue of PRC not to be taken up again.

Today morning  the chief secretary,  Satyagopal  in a statement said,  “Considering the present situation in respect of the matter pertaining to grant PRC to non-APST residents of Namsai and Changlang districts, the state government has decided that no further action shall be taken in respect of grant of PRC.”
