A huge scam is suspected in the State Level Eligibility Test ( SET ) exams of the state, after a PHD  scholar of Cotton University’s Bengali department disappeared with an answer script and remained untraced for a few days before he was arrested by police and sent to jail last week.

The matter, which was hushed up, came to light after activist and general secretary of Asomiya Yuva Mancha, Jitul Deka, on Monday demanded that the matter required a thorough probe as it may be a scam like the APSC scam of the state.

“The Phd scholar, Rahul Dey, sat for the exam on March 3. He was arrested on March 7. If he could get away from the exam centre with the answer script and keep it with him for more than 72 hours, it is definitely a big racket and may be even bigger than the APSC scam,” Deka said. “Only God knows how many such candidates have vanished with the answer scripts and filled it up later from their homes to submit it and clear the exams in connivance with SET authorities.”

Deka alleged that, Rahul  Dey, who was sent to jail and was later released on bail, was also not expelled or suspended from Cotton University even till now, clearly proving that the Cotton University authorities are trying to hush up the matter.

The SET exam was conducted at Lalit Chandra Bharali College, Maligaon, and the FIR against Dey was filed by the college principal, Dr Adison Ali. The answer script was recovered from Dey by police, Deka said.

“Even police did not do a proper investigation. In the FIR, they have put very weak sections of stealing whereas it should be investigated for criminal conspiracy, cheating and the involvement of other people who helped him to disappear for more than 72 hours,” Deka said.

He further said that he would meet the university and police authorities to demand a serious probe and immediate action against Dey and his associates, failing which he would take legal help to get a thorough enquiry instituted.
