2 ULFA (I) cadres apprehended in Assam, Ammunition recovered in Mizoram

In Assam, where Indian Army apprehended 2 ULFA(I) cadres from Tinsukia, on the other hand Assam Rifle recovered ammunition from Aizawl , the capital city of Mizoram.

In a Joint operation launched by Indian Army and Assam Police on 6th August  and nabbed two active cadres of ULFA(I) along with two live Chinese made hand grenades.

The operation was launched on the basis of a specific input from sources regarding presence of active ULFA (I) cadre in general area of Mangoan Tekri, in  Tinsukia district of Assam.

The apprehended ULFA(I) cadres have been identified as  SS Corporal Polo Asom @ Rohit Kuli,  resident of village Gojupuria No 2, Sadiya,  ans was active since 2011 and SS Pvt Ridip Asom @ Pranab Jyok Baruah, resident of village Shantipur, Dhemaji District, was active since 2019.

The nabbed insurgents along with recovered grenades have been handed over to Police for further investigations.

 The operation is part of the heightened  levels of security ahead of Independence Day to counter the insurgent groups from disrupting peace in Upper Assam

On the other hand on the basis of  a specific input from sources, a joint operation was conducted in general area of Chhinga Veng, Aizawl city of Mizoram on 7th Aug 2019  by troops of Assam Rifles and Special Narcotics Department, Mizoram.

During the search operation, the team of  Assam Rifles and state agency recovered 199 live rounds of Point 22 ammunition and  apprehended two  persons carrying the illegal stores.

The apprehended individuals have been identified as Mr Lalhmangaiha, age 24 yrs, resident of Lanwgtalai, Mizoram and the accomplice as Mr Limona, age 31yrs, a resident of Bangladesh.

The nabbed persons along with recovered ammunition have been handed over to Aizwal Police for  investigations.
